Hello! I’m Anna
Registered Marriage & Family Therapist Intern
I help my clients navigate through difficult times in their lives. Some are facing a difficult problem, others have acquired unwanted habits and most have problematic relationships. All of them want a change.
My clients have all sorts of questions such as: “why does my partner act this way?”, or “why do I react like this?”. They have tried to solve problems on their own but things are not turning around fast enough. They are simply stuck.
I spent most of my professional career helping companies. I now help individuals and that is very fulfilling. I like what I do and I hope you and I are a good fit for one other.
You took the first step to seek help by checking me out so far. Allow me to continue on this journey with you. I hope you want to give it a try.
Clients come to see me mostly for these issues:
Unexpected Mood Swings
You might have started to notice that your mood has been going from one extreme to another. Some days you are having a great day and others you just don’t want to get out of bed. This is strange and concerning to you as there’s nothing specifically to blame for it. It has also started to affect your body as you don’t sleep very well anymore.
Stress & Anxiety
Your life at work or at home is leaving you more stressed than ever. Anxiety is something you have dealt with for a long time and have gotten used to it, but know it has started to affect other areas of your body as well as it has started to affect your family or even a prospect of a promotion. You need to take care of this before it gets worse.
Someone to Talk To
Perhaps your immediate family or your family of origin are no longer open and inviting to listen to your issues. Your friends can be biased or cannot provide you with the type of help you seek. A Therapist is not only someone to talk to, she is also someone to problem-solve things with you and someone with whom you can be completely honest with.
If you have suffered trauma in your past, if you have PTSD due to a traumatic experience and if this is giving you flashbacks or you have a very vivid memory that you wish your brain would process it into long term memory, you might be a good candidate for EMDR work.
You want your relationship and your life to be better. Perhaps your partner is not on the same page as you or perhaps you need to have some tough conversations. Cultural differences, as well as different needs and wants in life, bring many couples to couples counseling.
Your friends and family have given you so much advice as to what you should do with your life. But you want something different and no one agrees with you. A Therapist can offer a non-judgmental stance to your situation.
Shame and trauma are components of infidelity. Sometimes we need help to stay in the marriage despite friends and family telling us that it’s not worth it. Your culture has informed you of many myths and you are so confused. A Therapist can bring clarity to such a difficult decision to make.
Perhaps you need a mediator to help you make amends to a relationship that needs help. A systemic trained therapist can help you understand and repair what is most important to you.
Perhaps your stress or anxiety is making you eat beyond being full. You have acquired a habit that you need help changing. You have started to question whether food addiction exists or what could be the source of this habit.
Emotional Eating is the act of eating as a result of a negative feeling. Perhaps you have noticed that every time you are sad, bored, or angry, you resort to a specific food as a coping skill. You never paid attention to the term “emotional eating” until now.
Although I do not work with children, I offer help to parents, which most of the time are the source of distress in children. I offer Positive Discipline workshops to parents in a group setting where you can learn ways to discipline your children in a more positive way. We all can learn something new during our workshops!
As a result of your anxiety, you might have acquired some habits that you would like to get rid of. I offer EMDR to treat anxiety as well and together with a protocol to change habits in your brain.
My Approach & Values
Family Therapists are often confused to be therapists only trained to work with families and couples. Family Therapists also help individuals through a systemic lens. This means that instead of only looking at ourselves and our internal feelings, we do that in relation to others. Other mental health disciplines hold different views.
My approach is evidence-based and I chose systemic modalities according to the client and the issue. I am continually learning new therapies that are supported by research and peer review.
My values are those that support underprivileged communities, people of color, people of faith or lack of faith, LGBTQ+, and all those who do not subscribe to mainstream thinking. My practice is inclusive and supportive of all. I believe everyone has the right to equal opportunity and respect.
